2008 Mustang GT
Today I thought I would talk about a car I know pretty well, the 2008 Mustang GT. I know this car because it has been my pleasure to own one for the last four years. I grew up in a General Motors house, Chevrolet being the preferred line from them. So when I called home to tell my Dad about my latest purchase, he was less than impressed. At the time I was looking for a "toy", I had thought about buying a last generation Camaro or Trans Am. I'm 45 so the 69-70 Mustang in not from my generation but I have always liked them. Being 45 I am a proud child of the 80's and that being the case I remember how I could not hang with my Buddy Randy Wells in his 84 Mustang Gt. I had a 84 Z-28 H.O at the time, we had done a little work on it and it was a pretty quick street car, but it couldn't hang with that GT. I had always thought that one day it would be cool to have a Mustang. I wasn't stuck on anything at the time, but it had to be rear wheel drive and a V-8, so as I was looking I started leaning towards something that had warranty. Thinking I would buy something used I called some friends in the business and they informed me that I could buy new for a few thousand more than one or two years old. That made the Mustang a easy choice in the end, Camaro was still something Chevrolet was promising was coming and all though I like the Challenger..I wouldn't have bought one. When I started to check I found out that I could buy a new mustang at invoice minus rebates, meaning I was able to buy a brand new GT, loaded with everything except GPS and Shaker 1000 for around $26,000, sign me up!! Also at the time Ford was the only one to have told the Government no on the bail out money and being a veteran I respected that.
Now I have had this car for going on four years, it has around 35,xxx miles on it and I absolutely love driving it. For the first two years I had it, it was a garage queen. But when my Blazer laid down on me I had to start driving it everyday. I tell people I love to drive it everyday, I just wish I didn't have to drive it every day. When Mr Ford first came up with the Mustang he wanted it to be cheap, reliable transportation, something that could be driven every day and in 2008 that was still the case. I have not had any trouble from it..knock on wood, I have put 19's and lowering springs on it, yet it still rides great. You have a good feel for the road but you arn't beat to death after a few 100 miles. I like the styling of it, I don't think it is going to look dated any time soon. I have cut the mufflers out of it, so it just runs through the cat, sounds good under throttle, but other wise you wouldn't know I have done anything. I have pretty much blacked out everything, except for the stainless on the wheels and when I replace those they will be black chrome. On the inside I have added the Carbon Fiber kit, I think it dressed it up in there. I had the windows tinted to legal limit, I don't like it to dark at night I can't see. I changed out the front pony on the grill with a custom one, it's what they call a bony pony..kinda cool. I run a K&N in it..I run one of those in about everything I own. Other than that it is stock. One day I hope to add turbos, get it up to about 450hp, get some good paint and have my buddy Steve Holcomb work a little of his magic on the interior, other than that it's a car I hope to have a long time. I have no complaints about it, it's a every day drive-able Hot Rod. The only thing I would say "what where they thinking" is no trunk release, there is nothing inside the car to open that. You have use the key fob or the key in the back. Not a big deal..until you need to open the trunk with out the keys. As fare as performance, I have never had trouble getting where I'm going in it. Would I like it to be faster? sure I'm all about more power but it's super fun to drive. Being a proud child of the 80's I am jealous of the new 5.0, but I think if I were to do a motor swap I would look at a old school Ford Motor, 302 or 428 CJ something different. To wrap it up, I love my car, for me it is the perfect Hot Rod and I would recommend someone looking for something like this to drive one I think you will like it. Hope you all are having a great day...thanks for taking the time to read my blog.
p.s When I'm home my Dad still doesn't like to ride in it...he wants to drive...lol..

Come on Spring!!!
I think we are all holding out breath, here on the east cost we have had a very mild winter and here in the south where our average winters day is around 45, it's 69 as I write this. So you will have to excuse me if I start to dream about warm sunny spring days, when I know winter is not over...it hasn't even arrived yet. To say I'm excited about the summer ahead is a understatement, I have been blessed with making some really cool contacts this winter and I can't wait to see what hits the streets this summer. One of the things I look forward to seeing this summer is the new ZL-1 Camaro and that got me to thinking about how that compared to the original 1969 ZL-1 Camaro. I shot one of the original 69 1969 ZL-1 Camaro up at Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum and because of what it is, it's a very cool car, but kinda plain. I mean it has dog dish hub caps, no badging, it looks like a stock Camaro, now I have not heard it run but my guess is setting next to it, there is no doubt it's not a 6 cyl Camaro. Now the 2012 ZL-1 says MOVE!! lol, It has a different hood, it's own wheels, ZL-1 badging, chin spoiler, staggered wheels and a all aluminum V-8. So once you notice the difference in the approach to styling the next question is, which one is faster. The new one,lol..and by a lot 0-60 on the 69 is 5.2 and the 12/3.1 1/4 mile 69/11.6 and the 12/11.0 and we don't even want to look at the handling numbers. So when I hear people talk about how things were so much better back in the "day" in this case...no they weren't. Now I know people will say, "well if you put new rubber on the 69 it would run with that 12", and they may be right. But for this comparison I'm just looking at stock form. I mean if you worked that 12 a little you would get even better numbers. It just seems fair to say start faster finish faster. Now this is just one case of how as car guys this is a great time to be alive and watching Barrett Jackson last month, it looks as if people are starting to come out of hiding, so I'm really excited about the future of the Hot Rod and really looking forward to spring. Let me know what you think, are our best days behind us? Is spring right around the corner? I sure hope so. Have a great day!!

I have a YouTube Channel where I shoot Car Videos, but I have thoughts about the Automobile that I think it will be fun to share also. I am just getting started here so bear with me. I will probably do a weekly review of what I thought of the NASCAR race every week. I will write about things that are happening in the Automotive industry, like the current horse power war going on. I attend several car shows during the summer so I will do written reviews on them, the things I want to write about is endless. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Have a great day.
