2008 Mustang GT

Today I thought I would talk about a car I know pretty well, the 2008 Mustang GT. I know this car because it has been my pleasure to own one for the last four years. I grew up in a General Motors house, Chevrolet being the preferred line from them. So when I called home to tell my Dad about my latest purchase, he was less than impressed. At the time I was looking for a "toy", I had thought about buying a last generation Camaro or Trans Am. I'm 45 so the 69-70 Mustang in not from my generation but I have always liked them. Being 45 I am a proud child of the 80's and that being the case I remember how I could not hang with my Buddy Randy Wells in his 84 Mustang Gt. I had a 84 Z-28 H.O at the time, we had done a little work on it and it was a pretty quick street car, but it couldn't hang with that GT. I had always thought that one day it would be cool to have a Mustang. I wasn't stuck on anything at the time, but it had to be rear wheel drive and a V-8, so as I was looking I started leaning towards something that had warranty. Thinking I would buy something used I called some friends in the business and they informed me that I could buy new for a few thousand more than one or two years old. That made the Mustang a easy choice in the end, Camaro was still something Chevrolet was promising was coming and all though I like the Challenger..I wouldn't have bought one. When I started to check I found out that I could buy a new mustang at invoice minus rebates, meaning I was able to buy a brand new GT, loaded with everything except GPS and Shaker 1000 for around $26,000, sign me up!! Also at the time Ford was the only one to have told the Government no on the bail out money and being a veteran I respected that.

Now I have had this car for going on four years, it has around 35,xxx miles on it and I absolutely love driving it. For the first two years I had it, it was a garage queen. But when my Blazer laid down on me I had to start driving it everyday. I tell people I love to drive it everyday, I just wish I didn't have to drive it every day. When Mr Ford first came up with the Mustang he wanted it to be cheap, reliable transportation, something that could be driven every day and in 2008 that was still the case. I have not had any trouble from it..knock on wood, I have put 19's and lowering springs on it, yet it still rides great. You have a good feel for the road but you arn't beat to death after a few 100 miles. I like the styling of it, I don't think it is going to look dated any time soon. I have cut the mufflers out of it, so it just runs through the cat, sounds good under throttle, but other wise you wouldn't know I have done anything. I have pretty much blacked out everything, except for the stainless on the wheels and when I replace those they will be black chrome. On the inside I have added the Carbon Fiber kit, I think it dressed it up in there. I had the windows tinted to legal limit, I don't like it to dark at night I can't see. I changed out the front pony on the grill with a custom one, it's what they call a bony pony..kinda cool. I run a K&N in it..I run one of those in about everything I own. Other than that it is stock. One day I hope to add turbos, get it up to about 450hp, get some good paint and have my buddy Steve Holcomb work a little of his magic on the interior, other than that it's a car I hope to have a long time. I have no complaints about it, it's a every day drive-able Hot Rod. The only thing I would say "what where they thinking" is no trunk release, there is nothing inside the car to open that. You have use the key fob or the key in the back. Not a big deal..until you need to open the trunk with out the keys. As fare as performance, I have never had trouble getting where I'm going in it. Would I like it to be faster? sure I'm all about more power but it's super fun to drive. Being a proud child of the 80's I am jealous of the new 5.0, but I think if I were to do a motor swap I would look at a old school Ford Motor, 302 or 428 CJ something different. To wrap it up, I love my car, for me it is the perfect Hot Rod and I would recommend someone looking for something like this to drive one I think you will like it. Hope you all are having a great day...thanks for taking the time to read my blog.

p.s When I'm home my Dad still doesn't like to ride in it...he wants to drive...lol..

  2. lol...It was the best car for me at the time...and to be honest if I was faced with the same decision today...I would make the same choice..but I would be getting to 5.0 instead of the 4.6 and that could only make me like the car more...the good news is GM is working hard to catch up...
